What is the difference between a fixture and a clip?
What's the difference between jigs and jigs?
The two words 'fixture' and 'jig' are easy to be confused or even misused due to the difference of only one word, so what's the difference between the fixture tested and jig?
1. Definition of fixture
Fixture is a kind of large-scale tool for woodworking, ironwork, fitter, machinery, electric control and other handicrafts. It is mainly used as a tool to help control position or action (or both). Because Taiwan was once ruled by Japan for a long time, it was used to the word 'fixture'.
Fixture classification: fixture can be divided into process assembly fixture, project test fixture and circuit board test fixture. Process assembly fixture includes assembly fixture, welding fixture, disassembly fixture, dispensing fixture, irradiation fixture, adjustment fixture and cutting fixture, while project test fixture includes life test fixture, packaging test fixture, environmental test fixture, optical test fixture, shielding test fixture, sound insulation test fixture, etc; Circuit board test fixture mainly includes ICT test fixture, FCT functional fixture, SMT furnace pass fixture, BGA test fixture, etc.
Uses of fixtures: fixtures are produced because of commercial needs, including mechanical fixtures, woodworking fixtures, welding fixtures, jewelry fixtures, and other fields. Some types of jigs are also called 'molds' or 'auxiliary tools', whose main purpose is to repeat some parts of the rework for repeatability and accuracy. Many types of jigs are customized, some to improve productivity or make work more accurate.
2. Definition of jigs
In a broad sense, any process in the process, which is used to install workpiece quickly, conveniently and safely, can be called fixture. For example, welding fixture, inspection fixture, assembly fixture, machine tool fixture, etc. Among them, machine tool fixture is the most common, often referred to as fixture. When machining the workpiece on the machine tool, in order to make the surface of the workpiece meet the technical requirements such as the size, geometry and the mutual position accuracy with other surfaces specified in the drawing, the workpiece must be installed (positioned) and clamped (clamped) before machining.
Jigs can be divided into universal fixture, special fixture, adjustable fixture and combined fixture according to the use characteristics.
Summary: Although the two are similar in use, the fixture is mainly used for working and guiding tools, while the fixture is mainly used for holding tools in a fixed position. Some devices that have both functions (control and guide tool) are also called fixtures, but those that only hold the device without guide tool are called 'jigs' rather than 'fixtures'. After entering the era of numerical control system, the use of jigs has been reduced.
